Getting Ready for Braces
Getting Ready for Braces
Sometimes our mouths and teeth grow at different rates, or just not all in the places we think they should. When that happens, oftentimes the teeth just look a little different than the ones we see in magazines and TV ads – and that's okay! There's no wrong way to have a body, after all.
But sometimes our teeth will grow in a way that's uncomfortable, makes it hard to bite or chew, or gets food trapped easily every time we eat corn on the cob. That can cause discomfort or even increase our risk of cavities (also known as carries) when the bacteria grows and makes little holes in our teeth!
When that happens, we can go see a special dentist called an Ortho-Dontist. Their job is to make us feel our best when we're eating and smiling. Each person's journey with the orthodontist is going to be unique to what their mouth needs. Some people get braces, and some people don't. Some people get other appliances first, and some don't. It's all up to the orthodontist, our dentist, and the grown-ups in our lives to decide what the best plan is.
Tooth Fairy Agency: Braces Division
Teeny the Tooth Fairy heads up our Braces Division. Her mission is to support YOU while you have oral appliances and braces.
If you and your parents wish to be, you will be assigned a tooth fairy from the Braces Division who will help guide you through the process. Your Agent will help your parents find resources like books and podcasts to explain about going to see the orthodontist and what to expect. Then when you get an oral appliance, your Agent will send you letters with your instructions to help you remember them, and monitor your toothbrushing habits to ensure happy healthy teeth. It's not always going to be easy – you're moving bones, after all! But your Tooth Fairy Agent will be there every step of the way to help encourage you and celebrate your successes with you.
